Critical Warning for Apple Users in India: Urgent Action Needed to Protect Devices from Cyber

The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued an urgent warning to Apple users, highlighting significant security vulnerabilities in older versions of Apple software. These flaws primarily affect devices running outdated iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Vision OS, and Safari, putting users at risk of cyber attacks.

CERT-In strongly advises users to update their devices to the latest software to close these security gaps. The warning mentions that these vulnerabilities could allow attackers to execute harmful code or carry out Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) attacks, posing a serious threat to device security.

The specific versions identified as vulnerable include iOS and iPadOS versions before 18.1.1 and 17.7.2, macOS versions before 15.1.1, Vision OS versions before 2.1.1, and Safari versions prior to 18.1.1. Users with devices running these outdated versions are urged to update to the latest operating systems without delay.

For devices that are no longer supported and cannot receive updates, CERT-In recommends upgrading to newer models that are compatible with the latest software. This step is crucial to maintain security and protect against evolving cyber threats.

Apple has already addressed these vulnerabilities in recent updates, such as iOS 18.1.1 and iPadOS 18.1.1, which include critical security patches. Apple follows a policy of disclosing vulnerabilities only after they have been resolved, ensuring that users who update their devices are shielded from potential attacks.

The security flaws may have affected some Intel-based Mac systems, as indicated in the changelog. However, updating devices to the most recent software will ensure that all vulnerabilities are patched.

Keeping devices updated is essential not only for protecting personal data but also for maintaining optimal device performance and defending against emerging threats. Apple users are encouraged to visit the official Apple support website to learn more about the updates and the vulnerabilities they address.
