Google Faces Global Outage, Affecting YouTube, Gmail, and Google Meet Services

Google is currently experiencing a widespread outage that is impacting multiple services, including YouTube, Gmail, and Google Meet. Users from across the globe are reporting difficulties in accessing these platforms. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service disruptions, nearly 7,000 users have been affected by the outage.

The majority of the complaints, around 53%, are related to issues with Google Search. Another 41% of users are reporting problems accessing the Google website, while 6% are facing difficulties logging into their accounts.

The disruption began around 3:00 PM (IST) and is also affecting users in India. Despite the widespread issues, Google’s official Workspace Status Dashboard indicates that there are no reported problems with any of its services so far.

YouTube, one of Google’s most popular platforms, is also experiencing major disruptions. About 3,200 users have reported problems accessing the video streaming service. Downdetector’s data shows that 40% of the complaints are related to server connection issues, 33% are regarding the YouTube app, and 28% of users are experiencing problems with video streaming itself.

At this time, Google has not provided an official statement regarding the cause of the outage or when services are expected to be fully restored.

Who Invented Google?

Google was created in 1998 by Sergey Brin and Larry Page, who developed the idea during their PhD research project at Stanford University in California.

The company celebrates its birthday every year on September 27.

The two met by chance when Page, 22 at the time, was considering attending Stanford for his PhD, and Brin, then 21, was assigned to show him around the campus.

In 2008, Eric Schmidt, who was the CEO of Google at the time, shared with Fortune that before Google went public in 2004, the trio — Schmidt along with co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin — agreed to work together for 20 years.

Today, Google operates in 40 countries and has 70 offices worldwide.

The company now generates an estimated annual revenue of $50 billion, with a remarkable 99% of its profits coming from advertising revenue.
