Google Search Widget on Android Set for Major Redesign with New Shortcuts

The Google Search widget on Android is getting a makeover, and users can expect some exciting changes soon. While Google Search has always been one of the top search engines, its integration with Android devices offers users many ways to interact with it. One of the most popular options is the home screen widget, which is about to receive a fresh look.

Earlier this year, Google hinted at adding themes to the widget, and now, it seems the company is preparing to introduce several other updates. A recent APK teardown of the Google app (v15.47.27 beta) has revealed some of the upcoming changes that will make the widget more customizable and visually appealing.

The most noticeable change is the new design of the widget. The search bar and shortcut are now separated, with the shortcut placed in its own circle, making it more prominent. This redesign also allows the widget to better match the theme chosen by the user, offering a more personalized experience.

One of the highlights of the new design is the introduction of Shortcuts. These were first revealed in a previous APK teardown and are expected to be available soon. When the feature rolls out, users will be able to select shortcuts from the Customize page by long-pressing the widget and tapping the pencil icon, or by going to the "Customize Search widget" option in the Google app’s Settings.

The new shortcuts will include Sports, Dictionary, and Homework, joining previously spotted options like Translate (text), Song Search, Weather, Translate (camera), and Finance. These additions make the widget much more functional, allowing users to quickly access their favorite tools.

With these changes, the Google Search widget is set to become more attractive and easier to use. The updated design should appeal to users who were skeptical of the previous version, which closely resembled the fixed Google Search bar seen on the Pixel Launcher.

In addition to the widget redesign, the Google app is also adding a Share option in search results. This feature will allow users to easily share links to specific search results, further enhancing the user experience.
