WhatsApp Unveils Voice Note Transcription for Android Users, How It Works

WhatsApp has introduced a highly anticipated feature for its Android users: voice note transcription. This new update enables users to convert voice messages into text directly within the app, streamlining communication and eliminating the need for external tools. The feature supports several languages, including Hindi, making it especially useful for users in India.

How to Activate and Use Voice Note Transcription

To use the new transcription feature, follow these simple steps:

Enable the Feature

Open WhatsApp and go to the Settings menu. Select 'Chats.' Toggle the transcription feature to activate it.

Transcribe a Voice Note

Once enabled, a 'Transcribe' option will appear when you receive a voice note. Click 'Transcribe' below the voice note to generate a text version of the message. WhatsApp will display the transcription alongside the original voice message.

Privacy and Security

WhatsApp ensures that voice messages are protected with end-to-end encryption. This means that only the sender and recipient can access the content. The transcription text is also kept private and cannot be shared, maintaining WhatsApp’s strong privacy standards.

Coming Soon: Customizable App Themes

In addition to the voice note transcription, WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let users select a default theme for the app, separate from their phone's theme settings. Currently, the app’s theme matches the phone’s light or dark mode, but soon users will be able to choose their preferred theme for a more personalized experience.
