Xiaomi 14 CIVI: Everything You Need to Know about Xiaomi's New Flagship

Xiaomi has introduced the latest addition to its 14 series lineup - the Xiaomi 14 CIVI. Touted as a camera-centric smartphone, the CIVI is short for "Cinematic Vision." Priced at Rs. 39,999 for the 8GB + 256GB variant and Rs. 44,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variant, the phone was launched on June 12, 2024, in three colors: Matcha Green, Cruise Blue, and Shadow Black, targeting the upper mid-range smartphone market.

We had the opportunity to explore the device right after its launch to evaluate whether it lives up to its promise of being a powerful contender in the almost-flagship category. This article focuses on our initial impressions of the device, covering its design, battery life, camera setup, and overall value for Indian users seeking a flagship experience at a more accessible price point.

Design of Xiaomi 14 CIVI Smartphone

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI stands out with its sleek and modern design, available in three stunning colors. The Matcha Green variant, in particular, caught our eye with its vibrant personality. Xiaomi has used 64% bio-based carbon material in its construction, a testament to its environmental focus. Both the Cruise Blue and Shadow Black variants feature anti-glare glass, which effectively resists smudges, as claimed by the company.

Performance and Processor

What sets the Xiaomi 14 CIVI apart from competitors like OnePlus, Vivo, and Samsung in this price range is its use of the latest flagship Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. This chipset is crucial for the CIVI's camera-centric focus, enabling the Image Signal Processor (ISP) to deliver a Leica-like photography experience. The phone operates on Xiaomi's HyperOS, built on the 4nm TMSC process, featuring an X4 super-core and Qualcomm Triple ISP 18-bit technology. This promises speed, power, and efficient power management from the moment you start using the device.

Camera Capabilities

Xiaomi emphasizes the CIVI's photography capabilities, equipped with a Leica Summilux lens. It boasts an optically stabilized 50MP f/1.63 Light Hunter 800 primary sensor, promising detailed images with vibrant colors in all lighting conditions. During our initial tests, it performed well in daylight, though its performance in low-light conditions remains to be thoroughly assessed. Additionally, the phone features a 50mm dedicated telephoto lens for portraits and a 12MP Leica ultra-wide lens with a 120-degree field of view for capturing landscapes effectively.

For selfies, the Xiaomi 14 CIVI sports a dual 32MP ultra-wide and wide-angle front camera, supporting AI Group Selfie Mode to ensure everyone fits into the frame perfectly. Other AI-powered features include AI Magic Erase for object removal and AI Expansion Tool for extending photo edges.

The Xiaomi 14 CIVI is loaded with impressive features on paper, promising a flagship-like experience at a lower price point. However, its real-world performance, especially concerning camera capabilities in diverse settings, remains to be seen. Xiaomi's claim of delivering a Cinematic Vision experience will be put to the test as users put the device through its paces.
