The Ahmedabad flower show is organized annually by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) since 2013. It is held at the Sabarmati riverfront showcasing a unique display of flowers, and providing adequate knowledge to people about horticulture practices, kitchen gardening and rooftop gardening among others through educational sessions and workshops. The visitors can buy flower plants, fertilizers and gardening tools form the flower show.

The show was inaugurated by Chief minister Bhupendra Patel at the grand inauguration ceremony. Divided in six sections, a distinct theme is promoted by each. The major highlight this year is the special floral display based on the ‘Olympic 2036’ theme. It celebrates India’s dream to host Olympics 2036. Moreover, there are 1 million flowers and plants belonging to nearly 50 species. There is the flower bouquet rteaching at a height of 35 ft that has more than 20,000 flowers and plants, which would be a new world record.

Flowers to look for-

The African daisies- Also known as office time, the flower only bloom during the day in light of the sun. It closes at nighttime, after 5:00 PM.

Dianthus- Commonly called as “pinks”. It looks as if the flowers are made up of the colorful pencil shaving. Dianthus is now grown by farmers worldwide.

Dahlia- The flower from the Sunflower family which is mostly found in Mexico and Central America. It can be as big as both the palm of your hands joint together.

Pancy- It is unique with its petals that form the flower like, two overlapping upper petals, two side petals and a single bottom petal which has a kind of a beard that is growing from the center. Also, the design of the flower makes it appear like a butterfly seated in the garden.

The Orchid- The highlight of the show, which is the most unique flower displayed. The roots of the plant do not go inside the soil. They hang in the air and intake the water from air only. This orchid can grow on other plants or trees. Do not miss it!

There is an easy access and affordable entry to the flower show. Tickets are available at a reasonable price of Rs. 70 on Monday to Friday. On weekends, it is Rs.100.
