Amazon has reportedly developed a groundbreaking generative artificial intelligence (AI) model capable of processing images, videos, and text. This innovation aims to enhance the functionality of Amazon Web Services (AWS) while reducing reliance on Anthropic's popular AI chatbot, Claude.

The new AI model, code-named Olympus, is designed to understand scenes in images and videos. It allows users to search for specific moments, such as a game-winning basketball shot, using simple text prompts. The development reflects Amazon's ambition to leverage in-house AI advancements to attract cloud service customers.

Amazon's investment in AI has been substantial, including an additional $4 billion commitment to Anthropic last week. This followed a similar $4 billion investment last year, emphasizing Amazon's focus on generative AI technology. Despite these partnerships, the company is strategically building its own AI capabilities to compete with industry giants like Google, Microsoft, and OpenAI.

Reports suggest that Amazon may officially unveil Olympus at its annual AWS re:Invent customer conference next week. This announcement could mark a significant step in Amazon's efforts to strengthen its position in the generative AI space.
