Meta-owned WhatsApp is experiencing a major outage, with users around the world struggling to access the platform’s web version. The disruption has affected both personal and business accounts, causing many to face difficulties connecting or sending messages through WhatsApp Web. This has led to a wave of complaints and humorous memes spreading across social media platforms.

According to Downdetector, a service that tracks online outages, around 58% of users have reported problems specifically with the web version of WhatsApp. In addition, 11% of users noted issues with the server connection, while 31% encountered glitches within the app itself.

Frustrated users quickly turned to social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), to share their experiences, seek updates, and vent their irritation. The outage triggered a flood of posts as users expressed their concerns and tried to find out when services would be restored.

This is the Second Major Outage for WhatsApp in 2024

This recent disruption marks the second significant outage for the widely-used messaging platform, WhatsApp, this year. Owned by Meta Platforms, WhatsApp had previously faced a global service failure on the night of April 4, 2024. The outage impacted thousands of users who were unable to access the platform, receiving error messages stating that the service was temporarily unavailable.

Outage tracking website Downdetector.com reported over 17,000 incidents during that April outage, highlighting the scale of the disruption. Many users were left frustrated as they struggled to send messages, make calls, or log in, leading to a flood of complaints and inquiries across social media platforms.
