Apple has started work on the new model of iPhone 17, which is set to launch in September 2025. After recently launching the iPhone 16 series, Apple has started working on the prototype of the iPhone 17. This news is special for Apple fans in India, because for the first time India's manufacturing unit has got the responsibility of mass production of iPhone 17 prototypes. This move reflects the rapidly growing growth in Indian smartphone manufacturing.

iPhone 17 prototype and manufacturing in India

According to reports, Apple has decided to mass-produce the iPhone 17 prototype in India. Apple is now focusing on manufacturing new iPhone models in India instead of China, which is a major milestone for Indian smartphone manufacturing. According to experts, this is the first time Apple will be manufacturing and developing iPhones in a country outside China.

As reported by Ming-Chi Kuo

According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the 'introductory production' of the iPhone 17 may begin in India in the second half of 2025. Kuo believes that Apple has planned to produce the standard iPhone 17 first, not the Pro model, to reduce risk. This decision can also be understood that Apple is taking precautions to launch its flagship models in India successfully.

The growing popularity of iPhone in India

Apple's popularity in India has grown rapidly in the last few years, especially the demand for iPhones has increased significantly. In contrast, Apple's popularity in China has seen a decline. According to a Bloomberg report, Apple exported nearly $6 billion worth of iPhones manufactured in India in 2023, an increase of one-third compared to last year. It is being estimated that Apple could cross the $10 billion mark in fiscal year 2024 by increasing production in India.

Partnership with Foxconn, Pegatron and Tata Wistron

Apple has partnered with Foxconn, Pegatron and Tata-owned Wistron to increase iPhone production in India. While in China, Foxconn's production level may drop to 75-85% by 2024, this expansion of production in India can prove to be an important step for Apple. This move will not only boost India's smartphone industry but will also diversify Apple's global supply chain. With iPhone 17, Indian manufacturing units are going to get the responsibility of testing and production on a large scale for the first time.
