The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is all set for its historic rocket launch today,  November 18, 2024. This will mark the first time ISRO is launching its advanced communication satellite, GSAT-N2, using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. The mission will send GSAT-N2 into a Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) and is being handled through ISRO’s commercial arm, New Space India Limited (NSIL). What is GSAT-N2?

GSAT-N2 is a high-capacity communication satellite designed to enhance broadband services and in-flight connectivity across India. It will play a crucial role in supporting India's Smart Cities Mission by offering substantial data transmission capacity.

Why is ISRO Choosing SpaceX's Falcon 9?

Typically, ISRO uses Ariane rockets for heavy-lift missions. However, due to availability and the specific weight of GSAT-N2 (4,700 kg), ISRO has chosen SpaceX's Falcon 9 for this mission. In the past, ISRO has launched its heavy satellites from French Guiana aboard Ariane rockets.

When is the Launch Scheduled?

The launch is set for November 18, 2024, with a backup window on November 19, 2024.

Where Will the Launch Take Place?

The launch will occur from Space Launch Complex 40 (SLC-40) at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida, USA.
